Masterclass A
From Experiential to Transformative: Assessing & Documenting Learning from Co-Curricular & Student Employment Experiences
Presenters: Dr Michael Preston; Mr Alvin Sim
Synopsis:
Co-curricular and student employment activities provide students skill-building and personal growth opportunities that are potentially transformative and career-affirming. Yet students often move from one activity to another without reflection on their learning. The presenters will share case studies and approaches that allow student engagement in co-curricular and student employment activities to be meaningfully measured and documented, enabling students to piece together a more comprehensive and holistic university narrative for themselves.
At the end of the session, participants will be able to:
- Explain the value of co-curricular learning (both in terms of personal growth as well as employability competencies, skills and attributes)
- Reframe the purpose and delivery of co-curricular education to render experiential education transformative
- Articulate possible ways that co-curricular learning can be meaningfully measured and documented
